If you have not been, Santorini must be on your short list of places to visit. I visited Santorini in 2015. I loved it. The views, narrow streets, food, and people were OMazing.

However, I only had a short stay. I wanted to give you better travel tips for Santorini; thus, I asked my wanderlust friend, Alexandra Howard, who loves all these Greek to write this piece.

Opa! Take it away Alexandra!

The Greek island of Santorini is actually made up of a small group of islands in the Aegean Sea and is undoubtedly one of the best holiday destinations in Greece. When most people think of Santorini, they think of wonderful views, beautiful beaches, blue roofs and an active volcano. Some may even think of vampires! However, there is a lot more to Santorini than meets the eye, so if you are looking to engage in some unique activities on your next vacation, you may well find that Santorini is the place to be.

Watch a Movie in Stunning Surroundings

If you’ve ever watched the outdoor movie scene in Cinema Paradiso and wished for a similar experience, a holiday in Santorini may enable you to make your dream come true.

Kamari Village is home to one of the world’s most impressive open-air cinemas, where not only can you watch great films in a location that’s as beautiful as any you might see on screen, but you can also enjoy luxury cocktails and the best popcorn.

Spend Time on the Site of an Archaeological Excavation

If you’re a history buff, you’ll be delighted to hear that Santorini is home to an impressive archaeological excavation site, which is home to ruins from Akrotiri – a city that was submerged when Santorini’s volcano erupted in 1700 B.C.!

Visitors are welcome to explore the whole perimeter of the site at leisure, and if you want to get as much out of your trip as possible really, you can hire a dedicated tour guide who will tell you everything you need to know about the site.

Get Off Road

Santorini Villas are so luxurious that it can be tempting to never stray too far from where you’re staying, but that would be a real shame because there are a lot of ‘secret’ spots in Santorini that are well-worth exploring.

The best way to see some of these places, many of which are well out of the way, is to hire a scooter or quad bike and go off and explore.

Have a Meal at a Classic Taverna

You would be a philistine if you spent time in Santorini without visiting one of the island’s classic Tavernas for a slap up Greek meal. Specifically, you absolutely must try Gyros, fried tomato fritters and a freshly made Santorini salad – it’s simple food at its best.

Spend the Night in a Windmill

Santorini’s windmills are amongst the most pictured landmarks in the whole of Europe, so it is well-worth visiting them to take a selfie or two. Even better than that, would be to book into Windmill Villas, which is located in Imerovigli, and which can house five people.

Not only is staying in a windmill villa a unique experience that you may never get to try again, but it also affords you unparalleled views of the Aegean Sea.

However, you spend your time in Santorini, thanks to the stunning island views, wonderful weather, and extraordinarily friendly Greek people, you are sure to have one of the best holidays of your life.
